Why Membership Matters
Does it really matter if I’m a member or not? Why do I have to take a class? Why do I have to sign anything? These are common questions when it comes to church membership. Many of us are skeptical of commitment, especially when there are a number of “hoops” to jump through. And while we can appreciate hesitation when it comes to commitment we unapologetically practice church membership because it’s essential to the health of the church at large and our members individually.
Committing yourself to a church is both weighty and wonderful. When members join, they commit to a spiritual family that provides encouragement and support. They are called to a biblical degree of responsibility, service and sacrifice to their brothers and sisters and our elders and leaders pledge to assist our Members with care, counsel, prayer and teaching.
If the Bible is the cornerstone of our church, then membership is the cement that holds us all together. Jesus and the Apostle Paul pointed us toward membership for our encouragement, our protection, and our instruction. We seek to carry out this vision through a three-step process for becoming a member of Center Church. We call this process our “Membership Roadmap”
Learn from Pastor Josh about why membership matters, what we mean by “The Gospel”, what the church is called to do and what our plan is for helping you grow as a disciple of Jesus. These videos are designed with you in mind, to help you get to know Center Church better. At the end of each video there is a question to help you process what you’ve watched.
Complete the membership questionnaire. In Step 1 you learned more about us; in Step 2 we want to learn more about you. Why are you interested in church membership? What is your experience with church? What are your beliefs? What hesitations or questions do you have? We ask that each person pursuing membership complete a separate questionnaire.
Attend one of our membership classes. During this class you’ll eat a meal and learn some important topics related to church membership including: the gospel, baptism, the church and our membership covenant. You’ll have a chance to share your spiritual story with one of our staff and ask any questions that you have.
After signing a “membership commitment” each applicant is reviewed by our staff team - if we don’t have any more questions you’ll become a member of Center Church and be introduced at our next members meeting!
